Shyness can cause students to be overlooked and fall behind in academics and interfere with developing social skills if these shy children are not given enough attention.  

Being shy is a personality trait that is not necessarily bad.  

Shy persons are often good listeners.  Some research suggests that shy people better understand problems and successfully accomplish projects.
